How I Healed More Than a Decade of Back Pain
Meet Dr. Ryan Peebles, DPT
I was just four years old when my dad introduced me to surfing. He would steer me out into the salty wind and bright California sunshine, and push me into the rolling waves. By the time I was seven or eight, I was balancing on a surfboard and catching my own waves.
That began my lifelong passion for surfing. There's nothing else in the world like it. I lived for it.
And then back pain threatened to take it away from me forever.
The pain started when I was just 16 years old.
It came on gradually. It didn't stem from any particular traumatic event. It just appeared one day and didn't go away. In fact, it kept getting worse.
Sharp, agonizing pain, without any explanation or relief. By the time I was 24, the pain was so debilitating that I couldn't surf anymore.
Every time I went out onto the water, my back and then my legs would hurt for weeks afterward. I would end up lying on the floor, fearing that I would suffer like this for the rest of my life.
That excruciating pain forced me to stop surfing. To stop pursuing my life's passion, something that I lived for. But I didn't have any choice, because by then, surfing brought me more sorrow than joy.
People very close to me were practically begging me to get back surgery.
I tried every treatment I could possibly find. Physical therapy. Chiropractors. Acupuncture. Pilates, yoga, rolfing, you name it. One chiropractor looked at my x-rays and told me that I would probably end up in a wheelchair before I turned 30.
That terrified me. When you talk about the spinal cord, you're talking about permanent damage and disability. You can't escape the fear that every time you move, you're causing nerve damage that will haunt you for the rest of your life.
The real problem was that I didn't understand where this terrible back pain was coming from. And because of that, I didn't have a solution.
I suffered from depression, anxiety, and fear. And then, impossibly, things got worse.
One day I was lying on my bedroom floor, in my usual spot, just gritting my teeth and trying to get through the pain. But for the first time, it started to spread from my lower back up to my neck.
It didn't make sense. If I had a "bad back" as I'd been told, why did I suddenly have searing pain in my neck?
At that moment, a flash of insight hit me. I realized that if the problem wasn't confined to my back, then I didn't have a back problem after all.
I had a problem with my whole body.
That realization changed everything. At that moment, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
I was determined to find a permanent solution to back pain. Not just for me, but for everyone.
I knew that I wasn't alone in wanting to get my life back.
The world is full of people like me, silently suffering chronic back pain. Unable to do the things they love, because the pain stops them.
I knew this was bigger than just me. If I could somehow learn why this pain happened, then maybe I could figure out how to stop it. Not just for myself, but for everyone.
If I found the solution, I could help anyone get their life back.
I spent years researching everything I could find about the human body.
I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and graduated with high honors just before my 30th birthday.
I worked in rehab facilities, outpatient clinics, sports clinics, and a hospital. I worked in pediatrics and geriatrics. I worked with a professional sports team and with Olympic athletes. I helped hundreds of people.
The more I learned, the more I started to connect the dots. Everywhere I looked, I saw muscle imbalances causing pain. Slowly, I came to realize that trying to solve the pain on the surface wouldn't work. I had to go deeper.
The only way to end the pain was to address the root cause. I had to start at the body's core.
Over time, I combined everything I had ever learned about reconnecting with your deep core muscles. Piece by piece, I created a unique program that teaches you how to retrain your body for healthy movement, so you can get rid of the pain for good.
And the program really works. I'm living proof of that.
I created this unique program to
help anyone get rid of back pain forever.
When I was at my lowest point, and my body felt like it was breaking down, I never imagined that one day I would be surfing again. And I definitely never would have believed that I could ride waves as big as the ones I'm riding today.
It's been 10 years now, and my body feels younger and healthier than ever. That's what I want for you, too.
That's why I created this program. Not just to get you out of pain. Because getting rid of the pain is only part of it.
The real question is, what do you want to do with your life?
- What has the pain made you give up?
- What do you love to do?
Close your eyes. Imagine it. Keep that vision in your mind.
Focus on the goal of getting back to it. Because I know you can get back there. And I believe you will.
I want to help you break out of the downward cycle of pain. I want to teach you what is happening in your body, so you can reverse it and live pain-free.
I want to help you get your life back. Let me show you how.
